20 Dec Excel Home Design 2022 Annual Review
Creating visions, building dreams. Light-filled sunrooms. Chic kitchens. Spacious living areas.
It’s such a buzz when we connect with the vision our customers have for their dream home.
This past year has blessed us with more stunning projects that were a pleasure to build.
Understanding that vision, and bringing it to life tangibly, has continued to be a key theme for us and a significant contribution to our success. This included developing our visualisation services even further, with the introduction of Virtual Reality walkthroughs.
The pilot proved immensely successful, and we are pleased to share the results with you below, along with several other key moments from our past year.
Announcement as the President of the FMB Cymru/ Wales.
In May, our Director, Russel Everett was elected as the President of the Federation of Master Builders Cymru/Wales.
The Federation of Master Builders is the largest trade association in the UK construction industry representing the interests of small and medium-sized building companies.
Sharing the same ethos and values as the FMB to “build better”, Excel has been a member company for 10 years and Russel has held the position of Vice President for the last two years.
On becoming President, Russel said:
“I feel very privileged and hope that when my two years are up, I am viewed as a President who listened to the concerns of fellow members and did all I could to ensure that their voice was heard by the likes of Government and governing bodies”.
Bespoke Kitchens the Excel way.
Few things can change the look and feel of your home, like a new kitchen design.
We understand that the kitchen is at the heart of a home and plays a significant role in how you want to live there.
Having designed and fitted so many stunning and Award Winning kitchens, it was the right time to launch our very own kitchen brand.
Combining chic design with the highest quality British manufacturing, we can now ensure total perfection and style in your kitchen.
There are kitchens, fitted kitchens and truly bespoke kitchens designed, for your exact needs by Excel.
Hazeldean was a complete renovation from the ground up and another project that epitomised our Designs For Living ethos.
Phil and Janet had previously lived in a farmhouse, and decided to downsize due to Phil’s medical situation. Therefore, future-proofing the home to complement their lifestyle needs would be a critical theme of this brief.
Using our 3D Walkthrough Technology, we brought to life their future home. Showing every angle and in high-definition, we develop their ideas into a true vision for their home.
“The reaction of everyone who’s come in is…Wow”
The house’s overall aesthetic is ultra-modern and chic. Once inside, you are greeted with a wow factor, yet feel at home with the lovely personal touches. For example, we repurposed a wooden bench from the old house and tailored it to fit under the stairs to make a cwtch.
The hub of the home is the spacious Sunroom which incorporates the modern shaker kitchen style.
The bespoke island in the kitchen creates a focal point and offers clever storage. In addition, Neff compact cooking options are built around the kitchen for an ergonomic and efficient culinary experience.
A combination of bi-folding doors and solar Velux windows make it a palace of natural light in the day. In the evening, you can enjoy the night-time canopy of stars.
“Light just streams in through the windows. It’s never dark and gloomy. Even in the night you can see the stars and the moon”.
The bathroom is both stylish and practical, designed with Phil’s condition in mind; the shower is big enough to accommodate care support or a wheelchair.
“We never felt nervous at any time. I would definitely recommend Excel. Everyone who’s come in has commented on the high standard of work”.
Tyla Garw Cottage
Tyla Garw Cottage was a memorable project as it was the pilot of our new Virtual Reality visualisation service.
Owners Azzem and Naz wanted to make better use of the garden and build a big open room at the back.
Azzem and Naz had a lot of ideas, and we worked with them to understand how they wanted to live in their home now and for years to come.
Our new VR presentation software allowed us to present our vision for their home with absolute clarity and detail. This played a vital role in illustrating how we felt the extension should be designed and would fulfil their fundamental goals.
“The guys at Excel Home Design are leading edge. How many builders take you into a VR situation where you can visualise the process?”
We were all delighted with the result. The Sunroom offers several living zones which enable the family to all be together whilst doing different activities.
“What I love about our Sunroom is the fact that we’ve got this one massive open plan area, it’s a living room, a dining room and a kitchen, all in one. It allows us to do lots of different things”.
The kitchen delivers the WOW factor whilst providing creative storage options and ergonomic cooking facilities. The lantern windows let the sun flood in, while the bi-folding doors create perfect in-and-out living in the garden.
“Because they have all the up-to-date prices, all the costings are real. Everything is costed correctly. I’d highly recommend them”.
Our full Virtual Reality Service will be online for all customers in early 2023.
In contrast to previous times, 2022 has been a more relaxed year, allowing us to catch up with valued friends and customers.
We enjoyed our recent visit to Owen and Mair during their open garden party.
We had previously won the FMB Heavenly Builder Award for our work on Trecastle, which saw two buildings converted into one.
The inspiration for the project came after Owen and Mair took a trip to Canada to see relatives and were impressed with their open-zone style homes that offered in-and-out living.
This seemed like a perfect concept for the family-orientated couple and their new development.
Mair loves the bi-folding doors as they make the garden feel like part of the house, and she is never separated from family and friends when she is entertaining.
We came up with suggestions for a larger window, so they could get the benefit of the view of the garden from inside the house.
Another great feature that we suggested were the double wine fridges.
“It was important for me to stand at the kitchen sink and still feel part of the garden and that I could see the garden and any guests we had”.
