Summer Sunroom Staycation

Summer Sunroom Staycation

Summer is here.

We are all looking forward to that much-needed time away where we can relax, lounge, laugh, eat and take in some Sun.

Getting away from it all is essential but, as we know, those holiday blues come around too quickly and it’s back to normality and having to take our chances with the British weather. Summer is about 12 weeks long (June – August) so it seems a shame to limit our seasonal R&R to just a week or two away.

A Stunning Sunroom from award winning Excel Home Design can help create that holiday feeling right at home, creating a relaxing and healthy environment throughout the entire Summer and most of the year!

Here are six ways in which a Stunning Sunroom can make you feel rejuvenated and make your home the destination for the ultimate Staycation!

When you think of holidays most of us would immediately associate with the word ‘Sun’.

Sunlight is the best source of Vitamin D, which studies show not only helps reduce bone loss and heart disease, but also improves our energy levels. A further study even found that low vitamin D was high among people with fatigue.

According to the NHS, ‘People living in the UK were estimated to be exposed to 3.4 times less vitamin D-generating radiation than people living at the equator’. So it’s important that we can safely maximise our exposure to the Sun. With a combination of the right plan for your windows and doors, a Sunroom will allow natural light to flood into your home.

Whether you have a flat roof or a pitched roof, there is a wide choice of glazing options available. Light in the Sunroom is also improved with the addition of Bi-folding doors, which work extremely well with Velux windows to maximise the light levels. Bi-fold doors are perfect for providing the transition between inside and outside. You will be able to move in and out of the direct sunlight easily whilst relaxing at home.

At some point, the Sun will go down, but there is no reason why the feel-good factor should slip over the horizon with it.

Excel will suggest state-of-the-art LED lighting both inside and ambient lighting outside your Sunroom, so you can relax and enjoy the cooler evening to sip a glass of Prosecco.

This could include deck and ground lights that work perfectly with your Sunroom’s internal and exterior internal/external or interior/exterior light system. Add some Festoon lighting and you’re on your way to an evening in your own Summer paradise, but with all the comforts of home.

As the portal between indoors and outdoors, having some well-chosen greenery and foliage in your Sunroom is a must.

Commenting on a recent study, Grant Archibald, Chief Executive of NHS Tayside, said: ‘There is no doubt that there is a strong connection between green space and good mental and physical health.’

With the hustle and bustle of city life, a Sunroom enables you to get back to nature quickly as soon as you are home. Hibiscus, Passion Flower and Orchids are recommended as perfect flowers to grow and add colour to your Sunroom.

With the feel of warm grass on your toes only a few feet outside your Sunroom’s open doors, you will be able to get back to nature very quickly.

Nothing cheers us up more than the company of good friends, so it’s time to get your Summer party started.

Sunrooms create a perfect space for holding a sophisticated Summer soiree, or a legendary BBQ in your garden.

With a typical Sunroom being large enough for a Dining room table, you will have the option of eating inside if the gathering is a little later in the evening, avoiding bugs and any unwelcome interludes of drizzle.

With some planning and imagination, you can create a Mediterranean Villa right in your back garden, as the fresh scents of your Summer garden and a welcome light breeze drifts through the open doors whilst enjoying your main course.

The simultaneous use of your Sunroom and garden can make your home the destination for a spirit-lifting summer gathering. All you need to do is ensure you’ve got enough space in the fridge!

When you think about summer holidays, it’s hard not to get nostalgic and think back to those trips away with the family where you played games and laughed until your sides split. We all need some fun in our lives.

Whether it’s time to get the board games out due to the patter of raindrops on the window, or utilise the space to create some fair weather fun, your Sunroom can be a zone for wonderful new memories.

If the weather is a bit “British” or if it’s too hot to eat outside, why not have your picnic inside. Just open the doors and use a bit of imagination with your pillows to create an Arabian floor picnic! An indoor hammock can also add a quirky way to relax and look up at the sky in all weathers!

A Sunroom is an extension to your living space with the potential for all the modern conveniences and tech you could wish for.

Sunrooms are often used as an office space. So with temperatures soaring, why sit in stifling traffic or a sweaty office, when you can open up the laptop and be productive with the fresh smell of your garden flowing in your home.

We hope our guide to a Summer Sunroom Staycation has given you some ideas to make the most of our sunny months.
