Eight steps to building your Dream Home

Building your dream home can sometimes seem like a long road full of bumps and potholes.

When you consider creating a home includes creative skills, building knowledge, legal issues, finance and project management skills, it is no wonder that it can seem a daunting prospect. 

For the last twenty years, Excel Home Design has been on a journey to create and develop homes that enhance your life as well as your kerb appeal.

Excel Home Design are Multi-Award Winning builders, members of the Federation of Master Builders & Which Trusted Traders. 

Our Eight Step process will not only guarantee that your dream home will be brought to life and be the setting of your happy future, it will also ensure that the project is as stress-free and enjoyable as possible.

 

Stage 1 – Arrange Creative Review

The first important step is arranging your FREE Creative Review with our Award Winning Director. It is important to organise this meeting as soon as possible, as timescales are often underestimated for project initiation. 

At the meeting, Excel Home Design Director Russell Everett, will chat through your aspirations for your dream home and work with you creatively to envision how potential developments will not only enhance your property, but the quality of your life. 

This often includes the flow of movement through the area of development, ergonomic considerations and what’s possible from the internal structure. From this meeting, an initial brief will be created and Excel will provide a provisional ballpark figure for the build.

 

Stage 2 – Drawing your Dream

The next stage is where the dream starts to become a reality. 

On agreement Excel will produce for you a full set of design drawings. This includes 2 design options and 3D models that allow a visual walk-through. Enabling you to visualise your dream home at this stage is an important factor in ensuring we are heading to the right destination. The cost of the drawings is included in the price for customers who take their project to completion. 


Stage 3 – Finances

Now that we all have an agreed vision of your dream home with all the fine detail worked out with the drawings, things start to get very real as we work out the fixed cost price. 

Providing plans don’t change, Excel will provide you with a fixed cost for the project (T&Cs apply). This fixed price will enable you to budget and feel confident that there are no hidden costs which you were not expecting. 

 

Stage 4 – Getting your dream home approved. 

As members of the Federation of Master Builders, Excel Home Design are fully aware of the importance of working hand in hand with building control. We have an excellent relationship with the local authority Building Control Departments and expert understanding of building control regulations. 

We ensure clear communication between Excel Home Design, Building Control, you the client and, where appropriate, suppliers and subcontractors. Every detail is carefully planned to ensure a high level of understanding, clear communication and due diligence, for a compliant building plan.

 

Stage 5 – The Start Date!!

Once we have the plans approved, the project gets really exciting as we work with you to fix a start date. 

We understand that even with a smooth, clear process, developing your home will cause disruption to your day to day lives. Excel will provide you with a three-week window for the start date. 

 

Stage 6 – Onsite

We wouldn’t blame anyone for not loving the idea of a load of builders in their home. At Excel Home Design, we pride ourselves on our conduct on-site.  

Director Russell Everett is a chartered member of the MCIOB. All Health and Safety policies and practices are set by Russell for each individual project, which includes utilising the relevant advice given from the Federation of Master Builders on issues such as CDM Regulations and guidance on keeping employees safe on site. 

Health and Safety practices are set by Russell specifically for each individual project. The Director monitors all site activity, including approved sub-contractors. Our attention to every client is to deliver excellent quality of workmanship. All site waste is disposed of by registered waste carriers.

Stage 7 – The Champagne moment

Finally, it’s the moment we’ve been waiting for: the completion of your stunning new development. 

But before we pop the cork on the bubbly, the most important thing we want you to know is that we don’t leave until you are happy. Completely happy. We will ensure that all building control certificates are signed off, along with  electrical and gas certification. Then it’s time to enjoy living in your home, in the way you’ve envisioned for so long. 

 

Stage 8 – Celebrating Designs For Living

Developing your home is an important step in your life, so its worth celebrating. With your permission, we will send a professional photographer to your home and supply you with the images as a further thank you from us!
